First United Methodist Church Staff Services (2009-2010)
Here are some standard procedures and staff services at First United Methodist
Church. Please be aware that the following information pertains only to
church communication policy and does not include the avenues the FUMCN uses
to disperse information.
Observe Church Building Hours
If you, or members of your committee, need to stop by the church during non-FUMCN
hours, please call ahead to let the office know you are coming. Having people
in the building without staff presents a security issue, not only for the church,
but for you and your committee. Your time in the building must begin and end
during staffed hours. The church building is open and staffed during the following hours:
- Monday-Friday: 8am – 9pm
- Saturday: 8am – 12pm
- Sunday: 9am – 12pm and 4 – 9pm
Note that on Sunday mornings, the FUMCN classrooms are used by the church.
Church Office Hours/Workroom Activities
Regular church office hours are 8am – 4:30pm Monday through Friday. No
one is in the office over the weekends.
Please Note: The workroom is reserved for counting
the offering on Monday mornings and for printing and folding the bulletin all day on Thursdays – Do not plan to make copies during this
time. If you need to use the workroom and machines for a larger-scale project, please
contact the church office to make a reservation so the room is clear and ready
to use.
Fees for use of Equipment in the Workroom
If you have never used our machines before, please ask for assistance, and please
observe the Workroom schedule outlined above. These machines should not
be used for personal copies. All groups are charged for using the copier equipment. The FUMCN code is required in order to run the copier. Counts are kept automatically by the copier and tallied automatically.
Scheduling Meetings in Other Rooms in the Building
Please notify Adele Roy (adele@fumc-a2.org)
at the church office of any meeting plans that will take place in the church
outside of normal FUMCN classroom activities. If your event requires setup/takedown
time, please mention it so the event time is correctly published to the public
and staff/custodial are aware of the correct amount of extra time required.
And please notify Adele of cancellations — we might be able
to assign that room for another group and always want our published church calendar
to be accurate!
Green “Room Setup” Sheets
The custodial staff is willing to prepare the room to meet your needs. We use
Green “Room Setup Sheets” so people can outline their expectations
for the room, and specify all equipment and supplies that should be on-hand.
These sheets are available in the church office and on the church website, and we would be happy
to help you fill one out. Please give us green sheets at least one week prior
to the meeting date so we can best plan our resources.
Custodial Issues
Please always try to return your meeting space to the condition you found it. If there is a problem with the space, please notify the church office immediately (locate the night custodian or leave a message if it is after office hours.) If your meeting is at Green Wood, please observe posted information about turning off lights, turning down heat, and please be sure to double- check that all windows and doors have been securely closed.
Church Bulletin Calendar
Items on the church calendar are automatically published on the calendar in the weekly church bulletin issued at our worship services. Meetings convening outside the church building will be listed as “offsite.” If, for some reason, a meeting shouldn’t be published, please notify Adele.
Church Bulletin Announcements
Bulletin Announcements (a simple paragraph that runs in our “white pages”) will not run more than 3 consecutive weeks. Announcements may be edited for space, style, or clarity. Submit all bulletin announcements to Adele prior to noon on the Wednesday before. Include a name, phone number and/or e-mail address where you can be reached with questions.
Church Bulletin Inserts
Bulletin Inserts (a full page announcement) will only run once and are typically
reserved for larger-scale events. Church staff will decide whether an insert
is appropriate for an event. Bulletin inserts can be designed and submitted
to Adele, or she can design them on your behalf. If she is to design the insert,
all copy should be submitted prior to noon on the Monday before. Please submit
the copy via e-mail if possible to avoid retyping (adele@fumc-a2.org).
Please also include a name and phone number or e-mail address where you can
be reached with questions.
The Messenger Newsletter
The monthly newsletter of FUMC, The Messenger, is another way to advertise
your event or report on its success. The deadline for submissions is typically
the 10th of the previous month so plan ahead! Submissions (including pictures)
can be placed in The Messenger mailbox outside the church office, or e-mailed
directly to Marcia Schlee at jschlee@umich.edu.
If you have any questions about this information, please don’t hesitate
to call Adele in the church office at 662-4536.
***Please note that if you have any announcement or information that you
would like to share with the FUMCN community, you may also contact sarah@haferhouse.com
for use of the FUMCN newsletter, website, and weekly updates.
