Our young fives program offers children a fun, creative environment with
an emphasis on learning skills that will help their start in kindergarten. Like kindergarten, we have a circle time to discuss the calendar, weather
and daily jobs. We work in centers every week, with a focus on learning to
work independently. The following subjects are incorporated in our yearly
curriculum: math, reading and writing, cooking, science, social studies, drama,
music and movement. We also include “specials” like they have in elementary
school, such as library. All of these activities revolve around a particular
weekly theme which often ties in with a local field trip and a specific choice
of books.
We are a co-op preschool, with parents helping in specific jobs and/or helping
in the classroom (for example, helping with centers or on field trips). Our
class has a maximum of 12 students, with Ms. Susan as the lead teacher. Ms.
Susan has a degree in education, over 10 years of working with children in
various capacities and has been a long-time FUMCN parent.
