FUMCN'S Connection to First United Methodist Church
In the early 1960's First United Methodist Church of Ann Arbor established FUMCN as an outreach to the community. As a program of the church, FUMCN does not rent space, or pay for utilities or janitorial services. The school is insured under the church policy. Also, FUMCN partners with the church to offer our teacher, Ms. Juli, retirement funding, which indicates the her high value to FUMCN and aids in the continuity of her career at FUMCN.
From the very beginning, FUMCN has been open to all students of any race, creed, sex, nationality, or ethnic origin. But more than that, FUMCN is designed to reflect the diversity of our community. Diversity is welcomed, encouraged, and needed.
FUMCN builds relationships between the church and the community, and between people of different faiths, economic levels, and experiences. Our Christian philosophy encourages relationships, understanding, and compassion. We acknowledge Christian holidays, principles, and prayer.
In a culture that often puts families last, FUMCN and First United Methodist Church put the family first. Families are encouraged to share their culture, heritage, and lifestyles, recognizing that everyone is a part of the family of God.
It's the nature of United Methodists to be inclusive: "Open hearts. Open minds. Open doors."
